Natural Disasters – Disaster Mapper

Hi All, I have found a great interactive website for students that explores natural disasters in Australia, ‘Disaster Mapper’. It has been produced by the Australian Government. It doesn’t work on the iPad however, due to requiring flash player. When you click on a natural disaster or disasters information and statistics appear on the left hand side of the screen as well as icons on the map of Australia. By clicking on the icons you will see additional information about the disaster(s). Students can select  just one or all states.  You can zoom in and out of the map as you would on Google maps. It looks like a good resource for students.

Big Idea: What is the real cost of bushfires/drought/floods?    Link to the 7 concepts for Geography (Place, Space, Environment, Interconnection, Scale, Change, Sustainability)
